With more than 30 years in international pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, Torbjorn has held senior leadership roles setting strategic, development and commercial agendas for major healthcare organisations. A co-founder of six companies, including Carelight alongside Sijung Hu and Martin French, he has led the development of innovative medical products and negotiated deals worth over €4 billion. Combining medical insight with business acumen, Torbjorn is driven by the belief that technology should tangibly improve and save lives. At Carelight, he champions a clear mission: to bring OPM-powered solutions that transform patient monitoring and quality of life worldwide.

As CTO, Rajeev brings more than 30 years of experience at the intersection of physiology, engineering and medicine. A recognised innovator in algorithm design, he has led pioneering work in diagnostic methods for epilepsy and sleep disorders, and built world-class product development teams that have successfully taken medical devices from concept to market. With over 40 technical publications and patents, and 15 years mentoring graduate researchers, Rajeev is a scientist and leader with a passion for practical impact. He believes Carelight’s OPM technology represents a breakthrough in how patients are monitored, blending precision, accessibility and clinical insight.

Sijung is the founding pioneer of Opto Physiological Monitoring (OPM). With over 25 years at the forefront of photonics and biomedical engineering, he has authored 150+ peer-reviewed publications, supervised 32 PhDs and holds multiple international patents. His groundbreaking work has shaped pulse oximetry research and created new possibilities in non-invasive monitoring. At Carelight, he drives the scientific vision, translating world-leading research into clinical-grade technologies that redefine patient care.

With more than 30 years in technology development and innovation, Martin brings a unique blend of scientific insight and commercial leadership to Carelight. A founder of two bioscience start-ups and co-author on 12 patents, he has a proven track record of turning breakthrough ideas into real-world healthcare solutions. Martin has also led regional innovation strategies delivering £80million of government support. At Carelight, he’s driven by one goal: transforming patient monitoring with technology that truly changes lives.

With over eight years’ experience in biomedical engineering, Yasmin specialises in technology development for smart-sensing healthcare applications. She leads Carelight’s local and overseas engineering teams across electronics, software, mechanical and systems disciplines – ensuring quality, regulatory and technical alignment throughout product delivery. A co-author on three patents and five peer-reviewed papers with more than 250 citations, Yasmin has a proven record in transforming innovation into action. She is motivated by creating meaningful technologies that make healthcare more effective, inclusive and connected, and by seeing OPM’s potential realised in patient care around the world.

With over 30 years in academic and applied research, Vincent brings exceptional expertise in software, signal processing and machine learning to Carelight’s OPM technology. A former Reader in Electronic Devices and author of more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, he has developed algorithms that reduce motion artefacts, assess blood pressure and extract respiration data during movement. His background spans mathematical modelling, systems engineering and quantum technology. Motivated by the challenge of discovery, Vincent sees healthcare as one of the most rewarding frontiers for science, where innovation directly improves lives.

With over 15 years in MedTech product development, John has led cross-functional teams delivering devices from concept through to manufacture and regulatory submission. His expertise spans systems design, risk management, usability engineering and ISO-certified quality management. Named on multiple patents and publications, he has also served as a Quality Manager within consultancy environments. At Carelight, John is driven by turning complex engineering into technologies that enhance patient monitoring and deliver safer, more effective care.

With eight years in electronics and embedded systems, Jiajin has been central to Carelight’s sensor innovation, leading hardware and firmware development for the C2 devices and co-authoring patents that protect core OPM breakthroughs. He has designed and refined high-performance OPM sensors, built testing platforms that speed up R&D and turned complex concepts into working solutions. Motivated by the chance to make technology equitable, Jiajin is focused on advancing monitoring that improves lives everywhere.
